As of July 6, 2026, Poland remained a cheaper market for refueling across all three fuel types — gasoline, diesel, and gas. The gap for gasoline is significant, and for diesel — small, but still important for transit. You can compare prices across all European countries on our page current fuel prices in Europe, which is updated daily.
Average prices by country (July 6, 2026):
| Fuel | Poland | Slovakia | Difference | Cheaper |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gasoline Euro 95 | 1,382 €/l | 1,662 €/l | 0,280 €/l | Poland |
| Diesel | 1,401 €/l | 1,483 €/l | 0,082 €/l | Poland |
| LPG Gas | 0,766 €/l | 0,827 €/l | 0,061 €/l | Poland |
For a full tank of 50 liters of gasoline for a passenger car, the savings on the Polish side are about 14 euros. For a truck with a 600-liter diesel tank, the theoretical saving from refueling in Poland instead of Slovakia is approximately 49 euros at these average prices, without taking into account detours, fuel card discounts, VAT refunds, and prices of specific gas stations.
Price movement in Slovakia over the month:
Slovak prices have risen over the past month, with diesel increasing faster than gasoline — by 7.2%, which directly affects international carriers. The network of gas stations for trucks in Slovakia can be viewed on the map of gas stations in Slovakia.
| Fuel in Slovakia | Current level | Change over month | % |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gasoline Super 95 | 1,566 €/l | +0,062 €/l | +4,12% |
| Diesel | 1,608 €/l | +0,108 €/l | +7,20% |
| LPG Gas | 0,681 €/l | +0,020 €/l | +3,03% |
Price jump in Poland at the beginning of July:
Retail prices in Poland sharply increased at the beginning of July, when temporary anti-crisis measures ended. Gasoline rose to 6.79–6.82 PLN per liter, and diesel to 6.97–7.05 PLN, with a jump reaching 0.80–0.86 PLN per liter, or 13–14%, at some gas stations. The reason is the end of the reduced excise tax on June 15 and the expiration of the reduced VAT and price cap on June 30. Therefore, price comparison at the beginning of July is particularly sensitive to the exact observation date. The network of gas stations for trucks in Poland is shown on the map of Polish gas stations.
Different sources — different figures:
Another data set for July 6 showed Poland at 1.58 €/l for gasoline and 1.60 €/l for diesel against Slovakia with 1.67 €/l and 1.52 €/l — meaning, according to this source, diesel in Slovakia was cheaper by 0.08 €/l. The discrepancy is most likely explained by different dates and collection methodologies, product definitions, or exchange rate processing, rather than a real market reversal. The main conclusion: for diesel, the difference should be checked on a specific working day, as it is close to zero and depends on the source. It is not advisable to mix different data providers in one table — it is better to stick to one weekly source, such as the European Commission's Weekly Oil Bulletin.
What this means for carriers:
For Poland–Slovakia routes, the logic is simple: plan the main refueling in Poland, when the route, tank volume, and company fuel policy allow. The advantage is especially noticeable on the southern corridors A1/D1 and S7/DK7, as well as in the areas of Żywiec–Čadca and Nowy Targ–Trstená crossings. The calculation should include the cost of detours, the risk of queues at the border, and the fuel reserve in the tank — typical traffic patterns for these directions are available on the Poland–Slovakia border statistics page. General tools and tips for truck drivers are collected in the for truck drivers section.
Position in the EU scale:
According to June data, Poland was the second cheapest among the 27 EU countries for gasoline: its price was 20.1% lower than the EU average, and diesel was 18.0% lower. Slovak gasoline was 4.3% lower than the EU average, and diesel was 8.6% lower, meaning also below the European average, but more expensive than Poland. These indicators are from different reporting periods, so they should be taken as structural context, not as an instant comparison of retail prices.
