Hrushiv: Ukrainian border-guard shift change at the Ukrainian–Polish border — when and how long to wait

Border guard shift change on the Ukrainian side of Hrushiv happens twice a day — at 08:00 and 20:00 local time. These are regular shifts that ensure continuous border control.

During shift change, processing of of cars at Hrushiv typically slows for 20–60 minutes. To minimize wait, plan to cross 30+ minutes before or 60+ minutes after the approximate shift change. Check the live queue above for current status.

At the neighboring Poland checkpoint the border-guard shift change happens at the same local times, but Poland is on Central European Time — one hour behind Kyiv — so there it falls around 07:00 and 19:00 Kyiv time. Because the two shifts overlap, the slowdown stretches into wider windows on both sides: roughly 07:00–08:30 in the morning and 19:00–20:30 in the evening (Kyiv time). During these intervals, processing on both sides can noticeably slow down.

User Reviews — 3.1/5 (30 reviews)

User sentiment for the Hrushiv checkpoint is mixed and highly polarized, reflecting an average rating around 3.1 out of 5. Travelers repeatedly describe it as unpredictable: some clear both Ukrainian and Polish control in as little as 1.5–2.5 hours, while others endure 7 to nearly 12 hours, with one driver reporting arrival at 00:30 and passage only at 19:00, including a 4-hour customs check. Wait times vary wildly by time of day and luck of lane choice, with several noting Ukrainian-side processing rates of roughly 10–12 cars per hour, which explains long backups when 30–65 cars are queued ahead. Recurring complaints center on lanes being slow or misrouted (the '4th passenger lane to Poland works poorly'), buses being sent to the scanner ('yama'), everyone forced through scanning, and queue-jumpers from the paid/'sharovyk' side worsening delays. Practical tips from reviewers: cars heading to Poland via the green corridor often move fastest; expect roughly 50 km of local roads to Jarosław and the highway afterward, so a longer wait at nearby Krakivets may still reach Kraków sooner due to direct motorway access. Pedestrians without safety vests risk police fines in the green corridor. Overall, Hrushiv is serviceable with a rebuilt road but demands patience and flexible timing.
