TruckTurn: HGV Navigator — Privacy Policy
App: eu.nakordoni.trucknav · Last updated: 28 September 2026
This policy explains what data the TruckTurn: HGV Navigator app ("the app", published by Nakordoni) uses, how it is stored and shared, and your choices. It is written to reflect exactly what the app does and to match our App Store / Google Play privacy details.
In short: TruckTurn works without an account, email or phone number (an account is optional, e.g. for offline maps), contains no advertising and uses no advertising identifier. Being a navigator, it does use your precise location, and sends it to our servers to calculate truck-legal routes and show what is ahead of you. Your position is shared with other drivers only if you switch on Driver Connect presence yourself. The AI assistant sends the text of your questions to a third-party AI provider; see section 5.
1. Data we use
- Precise location. Used to show you on the map, snap you to the road, calculate truck-legal routes, and find what is ahead of you (parking, fuel prices, truck wash, weigh stations, height limits, restriction zones, speed cameras, toll estimates, border queues). Coordinates are sent to our own servers for each of those lookups. While a navigation session is running the app also uses location in the background, so guidance keeps working with the screen off; background updates are switched on only for the duration of that session and off again when it ends. The app does not keep a history of everywhere you have been.
- Your truck profile. Height, weight, axles, cargo type and similar parameters you enter. They are stored on your device and sent with routing requests, because they are what makes a route legal for your vehicle.
- Anonymous device identity. The app generates a random device fingerprint, stores it in the iOS Keychain (on Android: in the app's private storage), and can obtain a Nakordoni device key (in the form NKD-XXXX-XXXX). This is not a hardware ID, IMEI or advertising ID — it is a random value used to recognise your install and sync your settings across Nakordoni apps.
- Microphone and speech, only on demand. If you tap the voice button, the app records what you say and transcribes it into a navigation command. Transcription uses Apple's speech recognition, which may process the audio on Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. Apart from this, the microphone is used only while you hold the Driver Connect push-to-talk button (see section 4). On Android, speech is transcribed on the device by the system speech recogniser; the audio is not sent to our servers.
- Content you submit. Road reports, votes on other drivers' reports, and the questions you type into the AI assistant.
- Usage analytics. Which screens and controls you use, sent to our own analytics endpoint and keyed only by the anonymous device key, to understand which features are worth keeping.
- Basic technical data. Standard request information (such as app version and, transiently, your IP address) is processed by our server to deliver map, routing and queue data and to prevent abuse.
2. Permissions
iPhone (iOS): The app asks for location ("while using the app", including background updates during an active navigation session), and for the microphone and speech recognition when you first use a voice command. It does not ask for contacts, camera, calendar, health or tracking permissions. You can withdraw any of these at any time in iOS Settings; navigation then falls back to manually chosen start and destination points, and the voice button stops working.
Android: the app asks for precise location (fine and approximate) while you use it; during an active navigation session a foreground service with a visible notification keeps location running with the screen off and stops when the session ends — the app does not request "all the time" background location. It asks for the microphone for voice commands and Driver Connect voice (push-to-talk), only when you use them; for notifications (navigation status and alerts); and for the camera only if you switch on the built-in dashcam — dashcam clips stay on your device and leave it only if you share a clip yourself. It does not request Bluetooth/nearby-devices, contacts, calendar or advertising-ID permissions. You can withdraw any of these at any time in Android Settings → Apps → TruckTurn → Permissions; navigation then falls back to manually chosen start and destination points, and the voice button stops working.
3. How data is used
- To calculate and follow a route that is legal for the truck you configured.
- To show services, restrictions and border queues relevant to where you are.
- To sync your settings across Nakordoni apps and to improve the product (analytics).
We do not sell your data, do not share it with data brokers, do not use it for advertising or profiling, and do not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
4. Driver Connect (optional)
Driver Connect lets you see other drivers nearby and message them. It is off until you switch presence on. While it is on, our realtime service receives and relays your position, your display name, your random driver id and your public key, so that nearby drivers can see you on the map; switching presence off stops the broadcasting of your position. Direct messages are end-to-end encrypted between the two devices — our server relays the ciphertext and cannot read them. Choose a display name that does not identify you personally if you do not want other drivers to know who you are.
Push-to-talk voice (optional). Driver Connect has a CB-radio style push-to-talk channel. The microphone records only while you hold the talk button. The clip is uploaded to our server and played to the drivers tuned to the same channel within its radius. Unlike direct messages, these channel clips are public and not end-to-end encrypted: anyone on the channel can hear them, so do not say anything you would not say on a CB radio. Clips are deleted from our server after 6 hours. A short record of each clip (your random driver id, the channel, its length and time, but not the audio) is kept for up to 7 days so we can act on abuse reports. Voice messages sent in a direct chat are end-to-end encrypted like text messages and are deleted from our server after 48 hours.
5. AI Assistant
The app includes an optional AI assistant that answers questions about routes, border queues and truck rules. The app contains no AI model of its own: your question goes to our server, which looks up the relevant facts in our own database and then calls a third-party large language model (LLM) API to phrase the answer in your language. Answers are labelled as AI-generated and may contain mistakes.
- Sent to the LLM provider: the text of your question, the checkpoint or country already mentioned in the conversation, your interface language, and factual context from our own database (queue counts, wait times, ban calendars, our published page text). Coordinates are added only for an explicit "nearest place" question, and only if you granted the location permission.
- Never sent to the LLM provider: your name, email, account credentials, phone number, device or advertising identifiers, your IP address (the request is made by our server, not by your device), contacts, photos or payment data. Driver Connect messages are never sent to it either.
- Providers: Groq, Inc. (api.groq.com); as fallbacks Mistral AI SAS (api.mistral.ai) and Google (Gemini API); as a last resort a model hosted on our own servers. They process the prompt only in order to return the answer, under their API terms, and we have not enabled any option that would let them use it for model training.
- What we store: on our own servers we keep the question, the answer, your random install identifier and a timestamp, to monitor answer quality and prevent abuse. It is not linked to a real-world identity, never sold, and not used for advertising or profiling.
6. Data sharing
Data is sent to Nakordoni's own servers (nakordoni.eu). The third parties involved are: the AI providers named in section 5 (assistant content only), Apple (iOS: speech recognition, only for the audio of a voice command you initiate), and other drivers (only your Driver Connect presence, only while you have it switched on). Map, routing, restriction and queue data shown in the app comes from our own database and from official public sources. We do not share your identifier, truck profile or location with advertisers or data brokers.
7. Data retention & deletion
- On device: deleting the app removes your settings, truck profile and cached map data.
- On our server: to delete the data linked to your device key, email us at privacy@nakordoni.eu and we will delete it.
- Driver Connect presence is transient — it exists only while you are online with presence switched on, and is not kept as a track afterwards.
- Step-by-step deletion request: Delete your TruckTurn data.
8. Children
TruckTurn is intended for professional drivers and is not directed to children.
