On the night of September 9, 2026, Russian strike drones carried out a targeted attack on the border infrastructure of Odesa Oblast. The enemy's target was the international automobile checkpoint "Starokozache," located on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.
Consequences of the Enemy Strike
- Infrastructure Destruction: Direct drone hits were recorded on the territory of the checkpoint and adjacent areas. Fires broke out at the impact sites.
- Civilian Casualties: According to the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the attack resulted in deaths and injuries among the civilian population who were near the checkpoint at the time of the shelling.
Operational Situation at the Border
- Traffic Halt: Clearance operations, as well as the processing of passengers and vehicles in this direction, have been completely suspended.
- International Coordination: Ukrainian border guards promptly informed the neighboring side (Moldova) about the situation and the temporary blocking of transit.
Carriers and citizens must take this information into account when planning trips and temporarily choose alternative checkpoints to cross the border with Moldova until an official announcement regarding the resumption of operations at the "Starokozache" checkpoint is made.
