German Autobahn this week: 14 full closures and long-term roadworks on 12 motorways
As of 20 October 2026 (week 43), Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes reports 40 significant disruptions on 12 German motorways. These include 14 full closures. Most of them are short closures of 8 to 12 hours, often at night. They are concentrated around Berlin (Schönefelder Kreuz), Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. Several long-term restrictions also affect key transit corridors on the A1, A3, A4, A6 and A7. For HGV/TIR drivers, even a short closure can force a detour on minor roads. These roads often have weight limits, narrow town centres and no suitable parking.
This report is a live snapshot, not a fixed weekly schedule. Closures can start late, be extended or be cancelled at short notice. Before departure, always check current conditions on our live traffic & closures map. For general rules on the German road network, see our Germany country guide.
Full closures
A10 and A13 — Berlin ring, Schönefelder Kreuz
- A10, Lankensee – Schönefelder Kreuz (direction Dreieck Spreeau → Schönefelder Kreuz): full closure on 20.10, 08:00–18:00.
- A10, Schönefelder Kreuz – Königs Wusterhausen (direction Dreieck Spreeau): full closure on 20.10, 08:00–18:00.
- A10, Am Fichtenplan-Nord – Königs Wusterhausen (direction Dreieck Potsdam → Dreieck Spreeau): full closure on 20.10, 08:00–18:00.
- A13, Bestensee – Schönefelder Kreuz (direction Dresden → Schönefelder Kreuz) and Schönefelder Kreuz – Am Kahlberg-Ost (direction Dresden): full closure on 20.10, 08:00–18:00.
Planning note: the southern Berlin ring and the A13 link to Dresden are both affected at the same time today. Traffic between Poland (A12) and Dresden or Leipzig should use the northern or western part of the Berlin ring, or wait until after 18:00. Expect heavy congestion on the remaining routes.
A14 — Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
- Nossen-Ost – Nossen (direction Leipzig → Nossen): full closure on 20.10, 05:00–17:00.
- Wismar – Jesendorf (direction Schwerin) and Schwerin-Ost – Schwerin-Nord (direction Wismar): full closure on 30.10, 08:00–16:00.
Planning note: on 30.10 the A14 between Wismar and Schwerin is closed in both directions. Port traffic to and from Wismar should consider the A20 and A24 as an alternative.
A81 — Gärtringen (Stuttgart area)
- Junction (AS) Gärtringen: full closure for ramp renovation, from 23.10, 20:00, until 24.10, 24:00.
- Mainline Gärtringen – Hildrizhausen (direction Singen → Stuttgart): full closure on 23.10, 20:00–21:00.
Planning note: the junction reopens shortly before the German Sunday truck driving ban starts at 00:00 on 25.10. Delays may push your arrival into the ban period, so plan your trip with enough reserve.
A96 — Ammersee (Lindau – München)
- Windach – Inning a. Ammersee, both directions, including the Eching tunnel: full closure from 20.10, 21:00, until 21.10, 05:00.
Planning note: night-time transit between Lindau and München should use the A8 via Ulm or the A7/A8 corridor.
A7 — Westenholz (Lower Saxony)
- Junction (AS) Westenholz (access from Westenholzer Bruch to the A7): full closure from 04.11, 00:00, because the L191 road surface is being renewed. Use the neighbouring junctions.
Major roadworks & lane restrictions
A4 — Wiehltalbrücke, Hermsdorfer Kreuz, Dresden
- Wiehltalbrücke area (Köln – Olpe): long-term lane restrictions between Bielstein and Hömeler Feld in both directions since November 2024. New phases begin on 26.10 (Morkepütz – Hömeler Feld) and 02.11 (Bellingroth – Wiehltalbrücke). Today there is a daytime restriction between Bielstein and Wiehltalbrücke, 09:00–15:00.
- AS Gummersbach: from 26.10, a closure for heavy goods traffic (up to 44 t) applies, linked to the Wiehltalbrücke works. Check your gross vehicle weight in advance. Our weigh station map helps if you need to verify it.
- Hermsdorfer Kreuz: restrictions in both directions (Erfurt – Chemnitz) since 05.10.
- Dresden-Neustadt / Dresden-Hellerau – Dresden-Wilder Mann: lane restrictions in both directions since 26.05.
A1, A2, A3
- A1: night restrictions at Rade – Hollenstedt (20.10), at Nonnweiler-Bierfeld – Steinerwald (23.10, 00:00–05:15), and at the Bad Schwartau junction (22.10–23.10).
- A2: at Autobahnkreuz Recklinghausen, the exit ramps to the A43 towards Wuppertal remain closed (long-term).
- A3: Emmerich-Ost – Löwenberger Landwehr (from the Dutch border towards Oberhausen) has been restricted since 28.07. AS Bogen access is closed since 12.10.
A5, A6, A7
- A5: night junction closures at Appenweier (21.10–22.10) and for an oversize transport (26.10–27.10). The B35 ramp at AS Bruchsal is closed.
- A6: AS Waidhaus is closed towards Nürnberg (long-term). This is relevant for traffic from the Czech border crossing.
- A7: AS Neumünster-Mitte is closed since 17.08. Restrictions apply at Jalm – Tarp on 29.10 and at AS Hamburg-Marmstorf today, 09:00–15:00.
In work zones, expect narrowed lanes, possible width limits and no overtaking for trucks. Follow the local signage.
Plan your route through Germany
- Check before departure. Open the live map shortly before you start, not the evening before. A detour can change your trip cost and route planning. It can also change your motorway toll (LKW-Maut), which you can check with our German LKW-Maut calculator.
- Respect driving bans. Germany has a truck driving ban (Fahrverbot) on Sundays and public holidays. 31 October (Reformation Day) is a public holiday in several federal states. See our weekend & holiday driving bans and the wider calendar of EU truck driving bans. If you continue south via the Brenner, also check the Italy truck driving ban calendar for 2026.
- Find parking early. Rest areas near closures fill quickly. Use our map of truck parkings to plan your rest period before you reach the closure.
- Allow buffer time. Detours add driving time. Use the tachograph calculator to check that you can still take your daily rest period legally.
