What is LKW-Maut in Germany?
LKW-Maut is a distance-based toll for trucks ≥7.5 t GVW on German federal roads (Bundesstraßen) and motorways. A fee is charged per kilometre driven.
Which vehicles must pay?
All trucks with a gross vehicle weight ≥7.5 t on German federal roads. Cars and vehicles under 7.5 t are exempt from the Maut.
What changed in December 2023?
From 1 December 2023, the BFStrMG reform introduced a CO₂ surcharge. Rates rose sharply for diesel trucks (up to +83% for Euro VI). Zero-emission vehicles (CO₂ class 5) are temporarily toll-free.
