Tips for Crossing the Kosovo Border
Kosovo has special entry rules due to Serbia not recognizing the country. Be sure to follow the correct travel order if you plan to visit both countries.
CRITICAL regarding Serbia: If you did NOT enter Kosovo from Serbia, do NOT enter Serbia from Kosovo. Serbia does not recognize Kosovo and may deny entry or impose fines.
Correct Travel Order
If you plan to visit both Serbia and Kosovo:
- Enter Serbia FIRST
- From Serbia enter Kosovo
- Return from Kosovo back to Serbia
Required Documents
- Valid international passport (mandatory for tourists)
- International driving permit
- Green Card for Kosovo (European Green Card often does NOT include Kosovo)
Visa Considerations
- Kosovo only accepts Schengen visas
- You CANNOT get a Kosovo visa in Serbia (Serbia does not recognize Kosovo)
- Serbian police do not issue exit stamps when entering Kosovo (they consider it an internal trip)

Facilitated Procedure for Albanian and Kosovo Citizens
From May 1 to September 30 and November 1 to February 28, citizens of Albania and Kosovo can cross the border without passport checks at Morina and Vermica crossings.
Important: European Green Card insurance typically does NOT cover Kosovo. Purchase separate insurance at the border.
