Overview
The national average German fuel prices for diesel stand at about €2.290 per litre in the latest bulletin of 29 October 2026. That is lower than a month ago. The cheapest stations near big cities are noticeably below the national average. All prices in this report are approximate and change continuously.
This report is for drivers who refuel in Germany. It covers Ukrainians who drive to or through the country, and local drivers who look for the cheapest pump. You will find national figures, a city comparison, and practical tips to lower your fuel bill.
Diesel price in Germany right now
According to the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin (latest date 2026-10-29), the national average for diesel is €2.290 per litre. The average for petrol 95 is €2.080 per litre. These are country-wide averages. They include all types of stations, also expensive ones on motorways.
Compared with 1 October 2026, diesel is down by €0.120 per litre, which is about 5%. Petrol 95 is down by €0.180 per litre over the same period. So both fuels became cheaper during October, and petrol fell more than diesel.

Many drivers ask, how much is gas per liter in Germany? In Germany, this usually means petrol. The national average for petrol 95 is €2.080 per litre. For LPG (autogas), check the live page, because this report does not give an LPG figure.
Why do drivers often pay less than the average? The average includes motorway stations and high-price brand stations. A driver who plans the stop can use cheaper stations in or near a town. The cheapest prices below come from this kind of station. They are lower than the average, but they are not the average.

How to pay less for diesel in Germany
Small habits can reduce your fuel cost. Here are the most useful ones.
- Refuel early in the morning or late in the evening. Diesel is usually cheapest at these times. German pump prices can swing by several cents during one day. Stations may change their prices many times a day.
- Avoid motorway stations. Stations on the motorway (Autobahn) charge roughly 15-20 cents per litre more than stations in towns. A short detour into a nearby town is usually worth it.
- Choose supermarket and independent stations. Stations at supermarkets and independent, non-brand stations are almost always the cheapest in a German town.
- Remember that fuel is your main variable cost. German motorways have no toll for passenger cars up to 3.5 t. So fuel is the cost you can really optimise.
Tips for drivers from Ukraine
Diesel in Poland is usually cheaper than in Germany. Fill up in Poland before you drive into Germany. Also top up the tank fully before you leave Ukraine. If your route runs near Forst, check the live prices for refuelling in Poland near Forst before you decide where to fill the tank.

Plan your trip through Germany
A few simple steps help you control the fuel cost of the whole trip.
- Check the live city page before you drive. Prices update continuously. The numbers in this report are a snapshot from 1 November 2026. Open the page for your city, for example Berlin, Munich or Hamburg, to see the current number.
- Use the route planner. The route planner helps you plan your drive and see where you can stop. Mark a town near your route as a fuel stop, not a motorway station.
- Time your refuelling. Choose the cheapest stop on your route. If you pass Frankfurt or Cologne, compare their live prices first. Then fill the tank at the cheaper place and in the cheaper time of day.
Keep in mind that all figures here are approximate. The live pages always show the latest price.
