Kalotina and Kapitan Andreevo busy, Danube ferries halted

BurgasMedia

Bulgaria's Border Police reported heavy traffic at two crossings as of 06:00 on 10 August 2026. Drivers of passenger cars should build extra time into their schedule.

Where the pressure is:
🇷🇸 Serbian border:
  • Kalotina: busy inbound flow into Bulgaria for cars.
🇹🇷 Turkish border:
  • Kapitan Andreevo: intensive movement in both directions for passenger vehicles.
Danube ferries out of service:

Low water levels on the Danube have taken two ferry links to Romania out of operation. Do not plan a route through them today.

  • Oryahovo – Bechet: suspended since 10 July.
  • Svishtov – Zimnicea: suspended since 21 July.

The practical alternative towards Romania is the Ruse – Giurgiu road bridge, though it absorbs the diverted traffic and queues there run longer than usual.

🇬🇷 Greek border:
  • Crossings operating normally.
  • Rudozem, Zlatograd, Makaza and Ivaylovgrad accept only cars and minibuses up to 3.5 tonnes.
  • Trucks and buses are routed via Kulata, Ilinden and Kapitan Petko Voyvoda.
🇲🇰 North Macedonian border:
  • Normal traffic at every checkpoint.
Advice for travellers:

Conditions shift through the day, so check live data shortly before departure and keep documents ready to hand. For background on how these crossings usually behave, see our review of queues on the Bulgarian border.
