Shehyni: Ukrainian border-guard shift change at the Ukrainian–Polish border — when and how long to wait
Border guard shift change on the Ukrainian side of Shehyni happens twice a day — at 08:00 and 20:00 local time. These are regular shifts that ensure continuous border control.
During shift change, processing of of buses at Shehyni typically slows for 20–60 minutes. To minimize wait, plan to cross 30+ minutes before or 60+ minutes after the approximate shift change. Check the live queue above for current status.
At the neighboring Poland checkpoint the border-guard shift change happens at the same local times, but Poland is on Central European Time — one hour behind Kyiv — so there it falls around 07:00 and 19:00 Kyiv time. Because the two shifts overlap, the slowdown stretches into wider windows on both sides: roughly 07:00–08:30 in the morning and 19:00–20:30 in the evening (Kyiv time). During these intervals, processing on both sides can noticeably slow down.

User Reviews — 1.9/5 (30 reviews)
Wait times reported by bus passengers cluster between 8 and 17 hours. Typical accounts: 12 hours on the Ukrainian side plus 5 on the Polish side (17 total, April 2025), 15 hours (December 2024, August 2024, June 2024), 14 hours with no movement at all, 13 hours toward Poland with 9 buses ahead, and 9 hours with an arrival at 01:00 and departure at 10:00. Throughput is the core pattern: one reviewer measured roughly one bus per hour, and others counted only 4 buses admitted in 3 hours. Queues of 7 to 13 tourist buses ahead are routinely described.
Practical tips from reviewers: cars and minibuses move normally while coaches stall, so avoid coach travel here if possible; never book a connecting flight from Krakow or elsewhere with under 24 hours' margin; expect a single working toilet in the cafe with a queue outside, no benches, and full exposure to +27°C heat or winter cold. One 4-star reviewer confirms clearance can take about 5 hours when documents and luggage are clean and traffic is light.

Reviews about the checkpoint Shehyni, By bus
