Overview: airport departure delays this week
We measured 5,547 departures between 23.09.2026 and 30.09.2026, and 77% of them left on time (15 minutes or less late). The figures come from our own polling of departure boards at 11 airports in Poland, Bulgaria and Moldova, cover only the last 7 days and record departure delay only. Burgas Airport (BOJ) had the worst average delay at 17.4 min. The single worst departure of the week left 5 h 51 min late from Gdańsk. For flight delays today, the live departure boards in the flights section show each flight as it moves.
Airport ranking: where departures ran latest
Burgas and Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) stand apart from the rest. Their average delays of 17.4 min and 15.8 min compare with 10.8 min or less at every other airport we monitor.

Busy hubs ran later than regional airports
The four airports with the most departures (Warsaw Chopin, Kraków, Sofia and Gdańsk) all sit in the top half of the table. The six smaller Polish, Bulgarian and Moldovan airports below them averaged between 3 min and 6.1 min. The sharpest contrast is in Warsaw. Chopin averaged 15.8 min and 67% on time, while Modlin averaged 3 min and 88% on time. On the Bulgarian coast, the week's figures for Varna luchthaven (Varna Airport) were better than Burgas on every measure. LOT Polish Airlines had the largest sample and the lowest on-time share, at 67% across 1,253 departures. That figure is close to the 67% recorded at Warsaw Chopin, which handled 1,657 of the week's departures. Wizz Air and Buzz, the two other high-volume carriers, left on time 81% and 84% of the time. Wizz Air still had the most departures over 60 min late (55). Enter Air and Austrian Airlines led the table, and Enter Air's negative average means its flights left slightly early on average. These are figures for departures from the 11 airports we monitor, not for each carrier's whole network; the full breakdown is on our airline punctuality page.
Only carriers with at least 55 measured departures this week are ranked. Smaller samples are too thin to support a fair comparison. Our data records how late a flight left, not why.
How the week trended
Thursday 24.09 was the weakest full day, with 68% on time and an average delay of 14.5 min. Saturday 26.09 was the best, at 81% on time and 8.2 min. From Sunday to Tuesday the numbers held steady at 76% to 78% on time. The first and last days of the window (23.09 and 30.09) are partial and do not support a trend reading.
Delayed right now
At 07:55 Kyiv time on 30.09.2026, 11 departures were running more than 15 minutes late across the monitored airports, and 2 of them were over 60 minutes late. This snapshot ages within the hour. What to do with these numbers
- Check the live departure board for your flight before you leave for the airport. The weekly figures are a closed window.
- A late departure does not always mean a missed connection, because some time can be recovered in the air. A short transfer is the real risk, so allow extra time when you fly from Burgas or Warsaw Chopin.
- Where two airports serve one city, as Chopin and Modlin do in Warsaw, this week's punctuality gap is a fair tiebreaker.
- If your trip begins with a land border crossing, check the current queue first. That wait time is the part of the journey you can plan around.
