Traffic leaving Latvia for Belarus has been halted at the Paternieki border crossing point. The Latvian State Border Guard announced the suspension on the evening of 31 July 2026, citing technical reasons and asking travellers to follow further updates.

What the suspension covers:

Only the outbound direction is affected: vehicles heading from Latvia into Belarus are not being processed at Paternieki while the problem lasts. The notice gave no reopening time, so drivers should treat the stoppage as open-ended until the Border Guard confirms normal operation.

🇱🇻 Latvia:
  • 31 July 2026, evening: exit toward Belarus not operating at Paternieki
  • No official restart time announced
  • The announcement did not report changes to inbound processing
Practical advice for drivers:
  • Confirm the status of the crossing immediately before departure, as technical stoppages can end without advance notice
  • Avoid queueing up near the crossing point, where parking space is limited
  • Freight operators should notify dispatchers early, since delivery windows will need rescheduling
  • Carry enough fuel, water and food in case waiting times stretch out

Conditions on this section of the border can change within hours, so check the current situation at Latvian border crossings before setting off and plan an alternative route in advance.
