Shift change at the Ukrainian–Romanian border: when and how long to wait
Border guard shift change on the Ukrainian side happens twice a day — at 08:00 and 20:00 local time. These are regular shifts that ensure continuous border control.
During shift change, processing of all crossing types often slows for 20–60 minutes. To minimize wait, plan to cross 30+ minutes before or 60+ minutes after the approximate shift change. Check the live queue above for current status.
The neighboring Romania checkpoint is in the same time zone as Ukraine (Kyiv time), so its shift change falls at roughly the same 08:00 and 20:00. Because both sides change at the same time, the slowdown is concentrated in narrow windows — about 08:00–08:30 in the morning and 20:00–20:30 in the evening (Kyiv time).
Porubne — Siret border crossing
The Porubne — Siret crossing is the main road checkpoint on the Ukraine–Romania border in the Bukovina region, operating around the clock. It sits on the M19 highway, roughly 36 km (about 40 minutes) from Chernivtsi and only 3 km from the Romanian town of Siret. It handles cars, buses, trucks of all categories and pedestrians, with daily traffic of 4,000–7,000 vehicles and travellers.
As one of the busiest points on the Ukraine–Romania border, the Porubne — Siret border crossing sees its heaviest demand on weekends and public holidays. Separate lanes serve passenger vehicles, buses and pedestrians.
Queues and waiting times
- Cars: typically 40–90 minutes
- Trucks: up to 8 hours at peak times
- Pedestrians: a short 10–30 minute queue through a dedicated lane
Truck queues here are among the longest on the Ukraine–Romania border because of intense freight movement. Live wait times and queue lengths are updated on Nakordoni.eu; you can follow the situation on the Ukraine–Romania crossing statistics page and check the live status of each lane via the Porubne checkpoint card.
Guidance by category
