Dorohusk: Ukrainian border-guard shift change at the Ukrainian–Polish border — when and how long to wait

Border guard shift change on the Ukrainian side of Dorohusk happens twice a day — at 08:00 and 20:00 local time. These are regular shifts that ensure continuous border control.

During shift change, processing of of buses at Dorohusk typically slows for 20–60 minutes. To minimize wait, plan to cross 30+ minutes before or 60+ minutes after the approximate shift change. Check the live queue above for current status.

At the neighboring Poland checkpoint the border-guard shift change happens at the same local times, but Poland is on Central European Time — one hour behind Kyiv — so there it falls around 07:00 and 19:00 Kyiv time. Because the two shifts overlap, the slowdown stretches into wider windows on both sides: roughly 07:00–08:30 in the morning and 19:00–20:30 in the evening (Kyiv time). During these intervals, processing on both sides can noticeably slow down.

User Reviews — 2.2/5 (5 reviews)

User sentiment at Dorohusk is predominantly negative, with four of five reviews rating the crossing at 1-2 stars and only one positive 5-star report. The dominant complaint is not the Ukrainian side but the Polish control point: travelers repeatedly describe long, nearly motionless bus queues there. Two reviewers on 2024-12-21 both reported more than 10 buses ahead of them at the Polish checkpoint, with forecasts of over 10 more hours of waiting. One of them had arrived at the Ukrainian border around 06:30 and was still queued at 14:50 — roughly 8 hours in without clearing.

A recurring structural criticism is data visibility. One reviewer noted that online queue counts only show buses waiting to exit Ukraine, while the queue forming on the Polish control side at Dorohusk is invisible. The result is misleading: the map appears clear, yet 10 buses are actually stacked up ahead, and Polish officers process them slowly. Another traveler entered the Polish checkpoint from the Ukrainian side around 12:00 Polish time and was still crossing when writing.

The one positive report shows the crossing can be fast off-peak: both Polish and Ukrainian control were cleared in 1 hour 40 minutes when entering at 00:13. The practical tip is to cross at night, expect the Polish side to be the bottleneck, and treat published queue figures as covering only the Ukrainian exit.
