Dorohusk: Ukrainian border-guard shift change at the Ukrainian–Polish border — when and how long to wait

Border guard shift change on the Ukrainian side of Dorohusk happens twice a day — at 08:00 and 20:00 local time. These are regular shifts that ensure continuous border control.

During shift change, processing of of buses at Dorohusk typically slows for 20–60 minutes. To minimize wait, plan to cross 30+ minutes before or 60+ minutes after the approximate shift change. Check the live queue above for current status.

At the neighboring Poland checkpoint the border-guard shift change happens at the same local times, but Poland is on Central European Time — one hour behind Kyiv — so there it falls around 07:00 and 19:00 Kyiv time. Because the two shifts overlap, the slowdown stretches into wider windows on both sides: roughly 07:00–08:30 in the morning and 19:00–20:30 in the evening (Kyiv time). During these intervals, processing on both sides can noticeably slow down.

User Reviews — 2.5/5 (4 reviews)

The Dorohusk checkpoint reviews reveal highly variable crossing experiences with significant timing-dependent variability. The most critical issue is queue congestion during peak periods—one traveler reported waiting in a queue of more than 10 buses with minimal movement, expecting delays exceeding 10 hours. However, conditions can be dramatically different; another user completed both the Polish and Ukrainian border checks in just 1 hour and 40 minutes during an off-peak period (after midnight at 00:13). A third review noted slow daytime progress around noon Polish time. A recurring frustration involves information transparency: one reviewer complained that online data only shows the number of buses waiting to exit Ukraine, but gives no visibility into the queues forming at Polish control before entering Poland. As a result, travelers see 'no queue' online yet arrive to find a line of 10 buses, with Polish officers processing very slowly. Key patterns suggest late-night and early-morning crossings offer significantly faster processing, while daytime and peak periods result in substantial delays, and commercial bus traffic heavily affects wait times. Travelers should schedule crossings during off-peak hours when feasible and not rely solely on online bus counts, since queue variations can range from under 2 hours to over 10 hours. Overall, Dorohusk experiences inconsistent service quality with crossing times heavily dependent on traffic volume, time of day, Polish-side processing speed, and seasonal factors.
