From May 12, 2026, Ukraine's eCherha online border queue system will automatically verify whether a valid Green Card insurance certificate is in place when drivers book a crossing slot. The feature was developed together with Ukraine's Motor (Transport) Insurance Bureau (MTIBU).
What changes for drivers:
During booking, the system checks the insurance status for the exact vehicle linked to the queue slot. The coverage status is shown in the driver's personal account.
- No certificate found: you get a notification but can still complete the booking.
- Policy not yet active: the slot stays valid until it reaches the "Entering" status at the checkpoint.
- No valid insurance at entry: the queue record is cancelled automatically.
Why it matters:
A Green Card is mandatory for all commercial transport — buses and trucks. A missing certificate is grounds for refusal of crossing, and after an accident abroad it can mean large costs. A policy takes effect no earlier than the day after issuance, because the data must be entered into MTIBU's central database.
The feature targets a common problem: insurance bought right before departure that has not yet taken effect on arrival. Check your status in advance and follow queue updates on the eCherha booking updates page.
