Hungary: increased fines for carriers violating mandatory transit routes

AsMAP Ukraine (International Road Carriers Association)

Starting from April 2026, significantly higher fines come into effect for non-compliance with mandatory transit routes through Hungary.

Fines for not using official transit lanes will increase fourfold: from approximately 100,000 forints (about €250) to 400,000 forints (about €1,000).

The transit network is mandatory for international freight transport. Hungarian authorities justify this measure by the need to protect the environment, road infrastructure, and the quality of life of local residents.

Enforcement will be strengthened in the near future.

☝ To avoid fines, we recommend that carriers carefully plan their routes when transiting through Hungary.
