Summer Saturday ban

During July and August the Saturday start of the weekend ban moves forward from 22:00 to 15:00 on all roads nationwide. Public holidays that adjoin a summer weekend trigger the extended long-weekend rule (08:00 on the first day until 22:00 on the last day). 2026 summer Saturdays with the 15:00 start: 4, 11, 18, 25 July and 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 August.

Fines for violations
- Driving during a ban period: fine under Government Decree 190/2008. (VII. 29.); the amount depends on the infringement
- Failure to prove a claimed exemption during a roadside check: fine and a possible stop order until the ban ends
- Enforcement is by roadside police and transport-authority checks, intensified around weekends and public holidays
Transit route rule for foreign trucks over 20 t (from 2026)
From 2026 Hungary applies a separate rule for foreign trucks over 20 t in transit: they are confined to motorways and expressways. This is a route rule, not a time ban, and it does not replace the weekend and public holiday ban.
