Carriers holding permits for regular international passenger services through the Shehyni – Medyka border crossing will now be able to use them at two adjacent crossings with Poland — Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice and Smilnytsia – Krościenko.

What the parties agreed on

The relevant agreement was reached between the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, the Ministry of Infrastructure of Poland, and the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs. Under it, permits issued for the route via the bus direction Shehyni – Medyka will also be recognised as valid at the two other border crossings. This effectively gives bus carriers three equivalent crossings for the same services.

Why this decision was made

The reason is renovation works at the Shehyni crossing, which began on 15 June and will continue until the end of 2027. During this period, bus processing there may be slower, so the alternative crossings are intended to relieve pressure on the route and reduce waiting times at the Polish border.

What has already been done

The eCherha system settings have already been updated: carriers can now book an electronic queue slot using their permits at all three border crossings — in addition to Shehyni, also at Nyzhankovychi and Smilnytsia.

Recommendation: if the queue at Shehyni slows down due to the renovation works, it is advisable to choose one of the two alternative crossings in advance — this will help maintain the regularity of bus routes and reduce travel time.
