In Bulgaria, from September 4 to September 7, 2026, temporary traffic restrictions are being introduced for trucks weighing over 12 tonnes. The measures by the Road Infrastructure Agency are linked to the expected peak traffic for the Unification Day.
Schedule and directions of restrictions:
The ban applies to the key motorways "Trakia" (A1), "Hemus" (A2), "Struma" (A3), as well as a section of route I-1 in the Blagoevgrad region.
🇧🇬 Bulgaria:
- September 4 (Friday): from 15:00 to 20:00 truck departures from Sofia are restricted. Entry to the capital is unrestricted.
- September 5 (Saturday): from 09:00 to 14:00 truck departures from Sofia are restricted.
- September 7 (Monday): from 12:00 to 20:00 truck movement towards Sofia is restricted. Departures from the capital are free.
Traffic organization and exceptions:
On route I-1 in the Simitli area, a reversible traffic scheme is introduced: on September 4 and 5, two lanes will operate towards the PP "Kulata", one towards Sofia. On September 7 – the opposite (two lanes towards Sofia, one towards Kulata).
The restrictions do not apply to passenger buses, transport of perishable goods, and hazardous cargo (ADR). For freight carriers heading to neighboring countries or in transit, it is recommended to consider delays at border approaches.
