Truck Driving Bans in Croatia 2026

· Applies to trucks over 7.5 t GVW (or combination over 14 m)

No ban right now in Croatia. Next ban: Sun, 5 Jul 05:00–21:00 local time.

Croatia has no nationwide all-road Sunday truck ban. Restrictions apply to freight vehicles over 7.5 t maximum permitted mass and, unusually for Europe, also to vehicle combinations longer than 14 m regardless of weight. The main regime is seasonal: from 15 June to 15 September, selected state roads in Istria and on the Adriatic coast are closed to these vehicles on Saturdays 04:00–14:00 and on Sundays and public holidays 12:00–23:00, while motorways and state road DC1 are excluded. Around public holidays, bans apply on the day before a holiday 15:00–23:00 and on the holiday itself 14:00–23:00.

Summer coastal and Istrian ban

15 June – 15 September 2026 · Saturday 04:00–14:00; Sunday and public holidays 12:00–23:00

Applies to freight vehicles over 7.5 t and combinations longer than 14 m on selected state roads in Istria and on the Adriatic coast. Motorways and state road DC1 are excluded, so rerouting onto a motorway can avoid the state-road ban.

Fines for violations

Motorways as a legal alternative

The summer ban covers selected state roads in Istria and on the coast but not motorways or state road DC1. Rerouting onto the motorway network can keep a vehicle moving during ban hours, at the cost of tolls and possible congestion.

Ferry-port access

Access roads to the Split and Zadar ferry ports are included in the summer restriction list, which matters for island logistics and coastal deliveries timed around ferry departures.

FAQ

Are trucks banned every Sunday in Croatia?

Not on the whole road network. Croatia uses route-specific summer and holiday bans on selected state roads, not a general nationwide all-road Sunday ban. Outside 15 June – 15 September, ordinary Sundays carry no coastal ban, though the SR2 / DC2 Varazdin–Dubrava Krizovljanska corridor is restricted on Sundays 06:00–22:00.

When does the summer truck ban apply in Croatia?

From 15 June to 15 September, on Saturdays 04:00–14:00 and on Sundays and public holidays 12:00–23:00, on selected state roads in Istria and on the Adriatic coast.

Which vehicles are affected in Croatia?

Freight vehicles over 7.5 t maximum permitted mass and vehicle combinations longer than 14 m. A combination can be caught by the length criterion even when it is under the weight threshold.

Do Croatian truck bans apply on motorways?

No. The summer ban applies on selected state roads in Istria and on the coast; motorways and state road DC1 are excluded from that rule.

What are the holiday ban times in Croatia?

On the day before a public holiday the ban runs 15:00–23:00 and on the holiday itself 14:00–23:00. During the summer period, holidays follow the 12:00–23:00 window.

Which cargo types are exempt?

Perishable goods, live animals, motor fuels and gas, selected ADR classes, and emergency and public-service operations such as police, military, road maintenance, postal, press and drinking-water transport. Carry registration papers, CMR documents and ADR papers where relevant.
