Neighboring countries:

  • Hungary — to the north
  • ✅ EES active on Hungarian side!
  • Horgos: 3–10 min
  • Romania — to the east
  • 🌉 Giurgiu Bridge — least busy!
  • 5–15 min
  • Bulgaria — to the southeast
  • Dimitrovgrad: 5–20 min
  • North Macedonia — to the south
  • Tabanovce: 5–15 min
  • Kosovo — to the southwest
  • ⚠️ Politically complex (Serbia doesn't recognize!)
  • Montenegro — to the west
  • Bijelo Polje: 5–15 min

Best routes to Schengen:

  • Via Hungary (EES, but fast)
  • Via Romania (Giurgiu — least busy!)

EES Контроль Документи

Yes! EES is active on the Hungarian side since October 12, 2025!

This is the first real EES implementation on an external Schengen border.

How it works:

  • ✅ Hungarian police (NOT Serbian) collects data
  • ✅ Collection on HUNGARIAN side (after exiting Serbia)
  • ✅ Mandatory for third-country nationals (non-EU/EEA)

What is collected:

  • Biometric passport scan
  • Fingerprints (10 fingers)
  • Facial photo
  • Entry/exit timestamp

Impact on time:

  • First entry: +5–15 minutes
  • Subsequent entries: minimal impact

Main crossings with EES:

  • Horgos–Bácsalmás (A3): 3–10 min + EES
  • Nagykaniža–Tompojevci: 3–8 min + EES

No, Serbia is NOT in the Schengen Area!

This makes Serbia a critical transit gateway to Schengen.

What this means:

  • ❌ EES does not apply in Serbia
  • ❌ ETIAS not required
  • ✅ Visa-free for 60+ countries (including Ukraine)
  • ✅ Up to 90 days stay
  • ✅ Minimal controls on Serbian side

Transit to Schengen:

  • Via Hungary: EES active on Hungarian side!
  • Via Romania (Giurgiu Bridge): least busy entry!

Financial requirements:

  • €32/day — one of the lowest in the world!
