We measured 6,365 departures at 11 airports in Poland, Bulgaria and Moldova between 09.09.2026 and 16.09.2026. Of these, 4,756 (75%) left on time, which here means 15 minutes late or less. Another 294 (4.6%) left more than 60 minutes late. The average departure delay across all airports was 10.9 min. Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) had the worst average, and the longest single delay of the week was 5 h 50 min. All figures come from our own polling of these 11 departure boards over the last 7 days. Airport ranking: where departures ran latest
Warsaw Chopin was the outlier, with an average delay of 15.7 min. That is 3.5 min more than Kraków, which ranked second. It is also more than three times the average at Katowice, which ranked last.

Busiest airports ran latest, Warsaw's two airports far apart
The two airports with the most departures, Warsaw Chopin and Kraków, had the highest average delays. The four airports with the lowest averages were all under 6.1 min: Varna, Modlin, Gdańsk and Katowice. The ranking still depends on the measure. Chişinău had the highest share of flights more than 60 minutes late (8.6%), but its average was mid-table. Warsaw Chopin had the lowest on-time share (63%), but only 3% of its departures were more than an hour late. The widest gap between airports in one city was in Warsaw. On WMI airport Poland (Modlin), 82% of departures left on time, against 63% on Warsaw airport departures from Chopin. For travellers from western Ukraine, Rzeszów international airport recorded an average delay of 7.3 min. Reaching it usually starts with a land border crossing, so check the border queues before you set off.

LOT Polish Airlines had the lowest on-time share (61%) across 1,387 departures, the largest sample of any carrier. Ryanair had the highest average delay, at 16.3 min. Buzz had 82% of its flights on time, yet it also recorded the most departures more than 60 minutes late (54). Its worst flights all came from Wrocław. Enter Air left early on average, at -3.4 min, with 99% on time. These figures cover departures from the 11 monitored airports only, not each carrier's whole network. An airline is listed only if we measured at least 64 of its departures this week, which is 1% of the total. Carriers with fewer flights are not ranked, because a small sample gives no reliable result. Our data records how late a flight left. It does not record the cause.
How the week trended
Thursday 10.09 was the worst full day, with an average delay of 13.2 min and 70% on time. Friday was close behind, at 13.6 min but with a better on-time share of 72%. Saturday 12.09 was the best day, at 6.4 min and 81% on time, and Sunday was similar. Delays rose again on Monday and Tuesday, to 9.6 min and 10 min. The first and last days of the window (Wednesday 09.09 and Wednesday 16.09) are partial and cannot be compared with full days.

- A late departure does not always mean a missed connection, because some time can be recovered in the air. A short transfer is the real risk. Allow extra time if you fly from Warsaw Chopin or Kraków.
