Traveling through the western border, many travelers ask where they can profitably buy perfumes, alcohol, cigarettes, or sweets without paying duty. Duty Free shops operate directly in the zone of international border crossing points. According to the register of the State Customs Service of Ukraine, such shops operate at most road crossings on the border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania. Zakarpattia is a record holder for the number of Duty Free shops. On the Hungarian direction, shops operate at the Chop, Vylok, Dyakove, Kosyno, and Luzhanka checkpoints, and on the Slovakian direction — in Uzhhorod and Malyi Bereznyi.

What is Duty Free and who can shop there:
Duty Free is a duty-free shop where goods are sold without import duties, excise taxes, and VAT. Only those who actually cross the state border can use it: purchases are usually made when leaving Ukraine, upon presentation of a foreign passport. That is why prices for perfumes, alcohol, and tobacco products are often lower here than in regular stores.

Purchasing at Duty Free does not exempt from the norms of duty-free import in the country of destination. Most EU countries have restrictions on the amount of alcohol and tobacco per person.
