The approach to the Moldovan border in Odesa region will become "smarter". The Service for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure in Odesa region has announced a tender through Prozorro for the creation of a video surveillance system and automated traffic management on the Odesa — Reni highway, directly near the Reni — Giurgiulești checkpoint. The estimated cost of the procurement is about 3.19 million UAH.

What will be installed:
  • automatic license plate recognition cameras;
  • overview cameras with video analytics function;
  • barriers with automatic control;
  • information LED displays with data on traffic and queues.
How it will work:

The main feature of the project is direct integration with the "eQueue" service. The complex will control the entry and exit of vehicles in real-time, and after reconciling the vehicle data with the electronic queue, the barrier will open automatically, without the involvement of an operator. The system is designed to operate around the clock.

For drivers, this means fewer manual checks and a more transparent queue at the border with Moldova. New displays will show the current traffic situation even on the approach to the checkpoint – useful for both cars and truck drivers heading through Reni towards Romania and further to the Balkans.

According to the technical task, the contractor must complete all work by the end of August 2026.

Recall: the actual waiting time at the Reni checkpoint for cars can be checked on the Reni — Giurgiulești page, and for trucks up to 7.5 t — on the Reni cargo direction page.
