The traffic police of the Rivierenland zone conducted a targeted inspection of freight transport on the N16 highway in Puurs-Sint-Amands. As a result of the raid, inspectors checked 32 trucks and issued fines totaling approximately €5,500.

The most common violation was the use of a mobile phone while driving a vehicle. Five drivers were detained for this violation, and in all cases, the police immediately confiscated their driving licenses.

What other violations were found:
  • two violations of tachograph usage requirements;
  • two cases of improper cargo securing;
  • one violation of lane driving rules.

Rivierenland police reported that similar targeted inspections of freight transport will be conducted regularly. The purpose of such raids is to improve road safety and ensure compliance with drivers' working and rest hours, technical documentation, and safe cargo transportation.

Important for carriers:

Carriers traveling through Belgium should pay special attention to the ban on using a phone while driving, correct tachograph operation, cargo securing, and adherence to lane driving rules. Violations can lead not only to a fine but also to temporary confiscation of a driving license.

Ukrainian long-haul truck drivers usually travel to Belgium in transit through Poland and Germany, so working and rest hours and tachograph serviceability should be checked before leaving Ukraine.
