Summer Friday and Saturday bans

4 July – 29 August 2026 · Saturdays 08:00–16:00 (1 and 8 August 08:00–22:00; 15 August 07:00–22:00); Fridays 24 and 31 July, 7 and 14 August 16:00–22:00

The summer additions are built around Italian tourist traffic waves. Every Saturday from 4 July to 29 August carries a daytime ban, with extended hours on the peak departure Saturdays 1 and 8 August. Four Fridays (24 and 31 July, 7 and 14 August) add a 16:00–22:00 evening ban on top of the normal calendar. Sunday bans in June–September start two hours earlier than in winter (07:00 instead of 09:00). In the same period, from 23 May to 6 September, ADR class 1 and 7 dangerous goods are banned on Saturdays 08:00–24:00 and all day on Sundays regardless of vehicle mass. July and August trip planning in Italy therefore depends on specific Fridays and Saturdays, not just Sundays.

The annual decree calendar

Italy does not use a single standing weekend rule. Each year the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport issues a decree with a full calendar of ban days and hours; for 2026 it is decree no. 325 of 12 December 2025, published in Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 302 of 31 December 2025, with 79 ban days. The same decree also restricts exceptional transports and vehicles carrying dangerous goods on the listed days, each with their own hours. Exemption requests are handled by the territorially competent Prefettura.

Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics provisions

From 1 January to 31 March 2026 the decree contains a special regime for the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. Vehicles transporting goods for the Games may circulate during ban periods if they display the badge with a unique identification number issued by Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and carry the related booking confirmation document.
