On that date a [truck driving ban](https://nakordoni.eu/sr/for_truck_drivers/traffic_bans) (locally: *omejitev prometa* / *zákaz jazdy*) applies in [Slovenia](https://nakordoni.eu/en/country/slovenia), where the holiday is called **priključitev Primorske k matični domovini**, and in [Slovakia](https://nakordoni.eu/en/country/slovakia), which observes a different public holiday on the same date: **Sedembolestná Panna Mária** (Day of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows). The restriction covers goods vehicles (HGV/TIR) above each country's weight threshold. Passenger cars, coaches and buses, and motorcycles are exempt. Both states are transit countries, so a vehicle that is only passing through is treated exactly like a vehicle loading or unloading locally.

## Pre-holiday day (Monday 2026-09-14)

The eve falls on a **Monday**, so the Friday and Saturday pre-holiday windows used by Poland, Croatia, Czechia, Hungary and Bulgaria are not triggered, and the Slovak Saturday pre-holiday rule does not apply either. One caution for Slovenia: its rules list a pre-holiday restriction **from 14:00** on motorways and expressways, so a driver planning to clear Slovenian motorways late on Monday afternoon should confirm the current status before departure.

### Slovenia

**Weight:** goods vehicles over 7.5 t. **Roads:** motorways and expressways. **Holiday window:** **08:00–21:00**. **Recurring pattern:** Sundays and public holidays 08:00–21:00, plus a pre-holiday restriction from 14:00. **Exemptions:** perishable goods, live animals, and dangerous goods carried with valid ADR documentation. **Penalties:** €500–€2,000. Because the ban is limited to motorways and expressways, the first-class road network is not covered, but transit times on those roads are considerably longer.

### Slovakia

**Weight:** goods vehicles over 7.5 t, or over 3.5 t when a trailer is used. **Roads:** all roads, with no lower-category alternative. **Holiday window:** **00:00–22:00**. **Recurring pattern:** Sundays and public holidays 00:00–22:00, plus a Saturday pre-holiday ban when the Saturday is followed by a holiday. **Exemptions:** between **00:00 and 06:00** for perishable goods and combined transport, and throughout the ban for live animals and fuel. **Penalties:** €150–€1,500.

## Plan Your Route

First, clear Slovakia before **00:00 on 15 September**. The Slovak ban starts at midnight and runs until **22:00** on all roads, so there is no morning window. Slovenia is different: its ban starts at **08:00**, which leaves the night and the early morning open on motorways and expressways for a vehicle already inside the country.

Second, secure the stop in advance. Reserve a TEN-T or other secured truck parking area for the night of 14–15 September and for the ban day itself, because capacity along the main routes is taken early on ban days. Third, if the load must keep moving, route it through a country that does not observe this holiday. The exception is Switzerland and Liechtenstein, where a night ban from **22:00 to 05:00** applies every day of the week to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.

Fourth, add buffer time at every border crossing on the day after the ban lifts, because departures concentrate in the first hours after **21:00** in Slovenia and **22:00** in Slovakia.
