# Flight Delays Today: 11 Airports Tracked, Worst Was 5h57m

26.08.2026 08:00 Serwis Nakordoni.eu

## Overview

We measured 6,801 departures at 11 airports over the past seven days, and 4,914 of them (72%) pushed back within 15 minutes of schedule. **Burgas Airport (BOJ)** posted the worst average departure delay at 18.9 min, and the longest single wait of the week reached **5 h 57 min** at Kraków. Every figure here comes from nakordoni.eu's own polling of [live departure boards](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/flights) at those 11 airports, covers only 19 to 26 August 2026, and describes departure delay alone. Anyone checking flight delays today should use the airport pages, because this weekly window is now closed while the boards keep moving.

## Airport departure delays: where flights ran latest

The gap between the calmest and the latest board was more than threefold, from 5.8 min at Katowice to 18.9 min at Burgas. Burgas also carried the heaviest tail: 11.7% of its departures left more than an hour behind schedule, the highest share in the table.

### The busiest boards ran latest, the regional ones did not

Four airports finished the week under 10 minutes of average delay: Katowice, Modlin, Chişinău and Gdańsk. The two largest samples in our set, Warsaw Chopin with 1,885 departures and Kraków with 1,010, both sat in the top three for average delay. Warsaw's two airports landed at opposite ends of the table, with Chopin at 18.6 min and 62% on time against [Modlin Airport](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/flights/warsaw-modlin) at 6.1 min and 82%. [Katowice airport in Poland](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/flights/katowice) was the most punctual board we monitor, 10.3 minutes better on average than Kraków. For a passenger holding a flexible booking, a gap of that size is a practical reason to prefer one departure point over the other. Many travellers reach these airports by road across a land border, and that queue time is the part of the trip that can be planned around, so check the [border queues](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/stat) before setting off.

## The five worst departures of the week

| # | Flight | Airline | From | To | Date | Delay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | **LOT2097** | LOT Polish Airlines | Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) | Chicago, IL (ORD) | Wed 19.08 | **5 h 57 min** |
| 2 | **WZZ4454** | Wizz Air | Kraków John Paul II International Airport (KRK) | Sofia (SOF) | Mon 24.08 | **5 h 44 min** |
| 3 | **FIE534** | Flyone Armenia | Chişinău International Airport (KIV) | EVN | Sat 22.08 | **5 h 33 min** |
| 4 | **WZZ4535** | Wizz Air | Varna Airport (VAR) | Liege (LGG) | Tue 25.08 | **5 h 33 min** |
| 5 | **WZZ4535** | Wizz Air | Varna Airport (VAR) | Liege (LGG) | Tue 25.08 | **5 h 33 min** |

Two of the five started at Kraków and two were the same Varna service to Liege on the same date. They fall on four different days and involve three carriers, so there is no single day or single airport behind the list. These are individual flights and say nothing about how any of these airlines performed overall. Our records hold how late each flight left, and nothing about the reason.

## Airlines: who left on time and who did not

| Airline | On time | Average delay | Departures measured |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| LOT Polish Airlines | 63% | 16.9 min | 1438 |
| Smartwings Poland | 63% | 21.9 min | 78 |
| Ryanair | 67% | 20.9 min | 523 |
| KLM | 68% | 13.4 min | 92 |
| Wizz Air | 69% | 18.9 min | 1164 |
| Lufthansa | 74% | 11.2 min | 172 |
| Turkish Airlines | 76% | 8.6 min | 104 |
| Bulgaria Air | 77% | 12.1 min | 129 |
| Buzz | 80% | 7.5 min | 1152 |
| Wizz Air Malta | 80% | 11.5 min | 137 |
| Austrian Airlines | 82% | 8 min | 68 |
| FlyOne | 90% | -0.2 min | 123 |
| Enter Air | 97% | -2.7 min | 157 |

The carrier spread was wider than the airport spread: 63% to 97% on time against 62% to 85% by airport. Two carriers with almost identical sample sizes finished far apart, Wizz Air at 69% on 1,164 departures and Buzz at 80% on 1,152. Enter Air and FlyOne both recorded a negative average, meaning their flights typically pushed back ahead of schedule. Smartwings Poland carried the longest average delay in the list at 21.9 min. These percentages describe punctuality on departures from the 11 airports we monitor and are not a measure of any carrier's whole network; the running figures sit on our [airline punctuality](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/flights/airlines) page.

A carrier appears above only with at least 68 measured departures this week, which is 1% of the total. Below that line a sample is too small to publish, so smaller operators stay out of the ranking even though they are in our database. We log how late a departure was, never the reason behind it.

## How the week trended

Thursday 20.08 carried the highest average delay at 19.1 min, and Friday 21.08 had the weakest punctuality at 63% on time across 1,001 departures. Conditions eased over the weekend, with Sunday 23.08 at 9.9 min and 76% on time. Monday 24.08 slipped back to 15.7 min before Tuesday 25.08 returned to 10.2 min and 78%. The first and last days of the window are partial, since the seven days roll hour by hour rather than by calendar date, so their smaller counts carry no trend.

## Delayed right now

This snapshot was taken at 07:55 Kyiv time on 26 August 2026 and ages within the hour. Across the monitored airports, 12 departures were running more than 15 minutes late at that moment, 2 of them beyond an hour. The board below shows which flights are delayed at that timestamp; the full list stays on the airport pages.

| Flight | Airline | From | To | Delay |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **TVP7422** | Smartwings Poland | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | CFU | **2 h 42 min** |
| **ISR730** | Israir | Burgas Airport (BOJ) | Tel Aviv | **1 h 07 min** |
| **BAW847** | British Airways | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | London, England | **46 min** |
| **WZZ1487** | Wizz Air | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | Alicante / Benidorm / Costa Blanca | **44 min** |
| **LOT281** | LOT Polish Airlines | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | London, England | **33 min** |
| **LOT133** | LOT Polish Airlines | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | Istanbul | **27 min** |
| **LOT671** | LOT Polish Airlines | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | Luqa | **24 min** |
| **LOT425** | LOT Polish Airlines | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | Lisbon | **23 min** |
| **LOT437** | LOT Polish Airlines | Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) | Barcelona | **22 min** |
| **WZZ1701** | Wizz Air | Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) | Madrid | **21 min** |

## What to do with these numbers

- Open the online board for your airport before you leave home. A weekly average describes the past seven days, and your flight has its own status.
- Allow extra time on a short connection if you depart from an airport near the top of the table. A late push-back can shrink during the flight, but a tight transfer is where the risk sits.
- When two airports serve the same city, treat the punctuality gap as a genuine tiebreaker. Warsaw Chopin and Modlin were 12.5 minutes apart on average delay this week. [Varna airport in Bulgaria](https://nakordoni.eu/pl/flights/varna) and Sofia sat within half a minute of each other, so that choice turns on other factors.
- If the trip begins with a land border crossing, check the queue before booking a transfer to the terminal.
