On Tuesday, September 9, traffic on the DN 5 road toward Giurgiu was completely blocked due to a road accident near the village of Daia, Giurgiu County ([Romania](https://nakordoni.eu/en/country/romania)). A minibus carrying passengers collided with a truck. The minibus driver was injured. Romanian road police closed the road completely — to inspect the scene and evacuate the injured person.

##### When traffic will resume

According to Romanian police, traffic was expected to resume after 14:30. However, after such accidents, scene inspection and debris clearance often take longer, so drivers should allow for a possible longer delay.

##### How this affects drivers

The closure of DN 5 near the village of Daia means that all traffic heading toward Bucharest–Giurgiu is being redirected onto a detour. Drivers are advised to avoid this route for the next few hours or to expect significant delays. The best option is to choose alternative roads through neighboring towns or to wait for the official resumption of traffic.

##### Tips for travelers

- Avoid the DN 5 route toward Giurgiu for the next few hours
- If a detour isn't possible — allow for 1–2 hours of extra time
- Follow updates from the Romanian INFOTRAFIC service
- Keep mobile internet turned on to receive up-to-date road condition information
- Consider alternative routes through neighboring counties

The Bucharest–Giurgiu route is one of the busiest in the region, with heavy traffic of heavy-duty trucks, so drivers of all vehicle types need to stay alert here.
