# Airport Departure Delays: 5,964 Flights, 72% On Time, Week 36

## Overview

We measured **5,964 departures** from 11 airports between 26 August and 2 September 2026. Of those, 4,266 left within 15 minutes of schedule, a share of 72%, while 389 pushed back more than an hour late. **Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW)** recorded the worst average departure delay at **20.2 min**, and the longest single wait of the week ran to **5 h 56 min**. All figures come from nakordoni.eu's own tracking: we poll the [live departure boards](https://nakordoni.eu/en/flights) of these 11 airports every five minutes. The numbers describe only those airports, only the last seven days, and only departure punctuality. They are not network-wide airline statistics and not an industry ranking. Anyone looking for flight delays today should read the weekly table as background and the live board as the current position.

## Airport ranking: where departures ran latest

Warsaw Chopin is the clear outlier. Its 20.2-minute average sits almost three minutes above Sofia and more than four times the figure at the quietest airport in the group.

### The busiest airports ran the latest

The four airports at the top of the table are the four largest by measured volume after Modlin, and they are the four where average delay stayed above 16 minutes. Below them the field compresses quickly: seven airports land between 4.7 and 11.2 minutes, and five of those kept at least 82% of departures on time. The split is geographic as well as by size. In Bulgaria, Sofia and Burgas ran late while [Varna Airport departures](https://nakordoni.eu/en/flights/varna) averaged 5.1 minutes and held the lowest heavy-delay rate in the group at 2.7%. Burgas is the one airport where the average understates the risk: 11.6% of its departures exceeded an hour, the highest share measured anywhere this week. In Poland, [Katowice Airport (KTW)](https://nakordoni.eu/en/flights/katowice) was the most punctual of the larger fields at 88% on time. The sharpest practical contrast is in Warsaw itself, where the two fields are 15.5 minutes apart on average. ## The five worst departures of the week

These five flights share almost nothing beyond their length. They left from five different airports on five different days, and only Wizz Air appears twice. Our records hold how late each one pushed back, not the reason behind it.

The spread between carriers is wider than the spread between airports: 39 percentage points separate LOT Polish Airlines at 59% on time from Enter Air at 98%. Two carriers averaged below zero, FlyOne at -1.1 minutes and Enter Air at -3.3 minutes, meaning their flights typically pushed back slightly ahead of schedule. Volume shapes the totals at the other end. Wizz Air logged 95 departures over an hour late from 1,024 measured, and Buzz recorded 57 from a nearly identical 999 while still holding an 80% on-time share. Every figure in this table is punctuality on departures from the 11 airports we monitor, not the carrier's whole network. A carrier enters this table only with at least 60 measured departures in the week. Below that, a handful of observations cannot support a published percentage, so smaller operators stay out of the ranking even though their flights are in our data. Our records carry the size of each delay and nothing about its origin, so we publish no causes.

## How the week trended

Friday 28 August was the weakest day of the window, with an average delay of 20.4 minutes and only 63% of 1,010 departures leaving on time. Saturday stayed close behind at 17.5 minutes and 64%. From Sunday onward punctuality recovered steadily, reaching 78% on Monday and 80% on Tuesday 1 September, when the average fell to 7 minutes. The first and last days of the list, 26 August and 2 September, are partial: the window is a rolling seven times 24 hours rather than a set of calendar days, so their lower counts carry no trend.

## Delayed right now

As of 07:55 on 2 September 2026, Kyiv time, **0 departures** were running more than 15 minutes late across the monitored airports, and 0 of those exceeded 60 minutes. This snapshot ages within the hour.

## What to do with these numbers

- Open the live departure board for your airport before you set out. The weekly window above is closed, the boards are not.
- Build extra slack into a short connection if you depart from an airport near the top of the ranking. A late push-back can be partly recovered in flight, and a tight transfer is where it becomes expensive.
- When two airports serve the same city, the punctuality gap is a legitimate tiebreaker. Warsaw showed a 15.5-minute difference this week.
- Check the border queue first if your trip starts with a land crossing, then add the airport's typical delay on top.
