The Austrian Minister of Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure approved the **summer calendar of truck driving bans on the A10 Tauern Autobahn**. The decree was published in the Federal Law Gazette on July 10, 2026 (BGBl. II Nr. 190/2026), and will be valid on Saturdays from July 11 to September 19, 2026.

The restriction applies to trucks and semi-trailer tractors with a maximum permissible mass of over 7.5 t, as well as to trucks with trailers if the sum of the maximum permissible masses of both vehicles exceeds 7.5 t. The remaining [truck driving bans in Austria](https://nakordoni.eu/en/for_truck_drivers/traffic_bans/austria) continue to apply in parallel – the A10 summer calendar does not cancel them.

##### When exactly the ban is in effect:

| Direction | A10 Section | Saturdays | Time |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Southbound, towards Villach | Salzburg junction — Villach junction | 11.07 – 08.08 and 22.08 – 05.09.2026 | 07:00–15:00 |
| Northbound, towards Salzburg | Villach junction — Salzburg junction | 18.07 – 08.08 and 22.08 – 19.09.2026 | 07:00–15:00 |

A key detail that is easy to miss: the periods for the two directions do **not coincide**. The southbound carriageway is closed from July 11, the northbound one a week later, from July 18. However, the "northbound" ban lasts significantly longer: until September 19, while the "southbound" one ends on September 5.

##### Who has exceptions:

- transport of fresh products: fruits and vegetables, milk and dairy products, meat, fish and live fish, eggs, mushrooms, fresh baked goods, cut flowers and potted herbs, ready meals. During the trip, you must have an invoice or a list of unloading locations and be able to confirm the loading volume at any time;
- trips with destination or origin in the Austrian districts of Salzburg, Salzburg-Umgebung, Hallein, St. Johann im Pongau, Tamsweg, Zell am See, Hermagor, Spittal an der Drau, Villach-Land, Villach and Lienz, as well as in the Bavarian district of Berchtesgadener Land;
- trips where **both the beginning and the end** of the route lie in the districts of Braunau, Vöcklabruck, Gmunden, Murau, Liezen, Feldkirchen, Klagenfurt and Klagenfurt-Land, in the Bavarian districts of Traunstein and Rosenheim, in the Italian provinces of Udine, Pordenone and Gorizia, or in the Slovenian regions of Gorenjska and Goriška;
- transport of mail, periodic printed publications, livestock for slaughter, supply of beverages to recreational areas;
- emergency and municipal services: towing, technical assistance, disaster relief, transport of road services and police, waste disposal, maintenance of regular bus routes;
- transport of goods to and from airports, humanitarian transport, self-propelled agricultural machinery, urgent Bundeswehr trips.

##### What this means for carriers:

The ban is tied to the **direction of travel, not to transit status**. Any truck over 7.5 t on the corresponding A10 carriageway during the specified hours falls under it – even if the trip is not international transit and does not cross any border. Therefore, Saturday route sections through Salzburg and Carinthia should be planned either before 07:00 or after 15:00.

Before departure, it makes sense to recalculate the cost of travel on [Europe's toll roads](https://nakordoni.eu/en/for_car_drivers/toll-roads) and compare [fuel prices in Austria](https://nakordoni.eu/en/for_car_drivers/fuel_austria) – an eight-hour Saturday break usually means an unplanned overnight stay and refueling. Restrictions for other countries are collected in the section [for truck drivers](https://nakordoni.eu/en/for_truck_drivers).
