This is the last Sunday of August and one of the few days in the year when large [shops](https://nakordoni.eu/en/shopping), supermarkets, and shopping centres are permitted to open. On all other Sundays, retail trading is restricted by law. Plan your cross-border shopping or travel stops accordingly to avoid arriving when stores are closed. ## Why most Sundays the shops are closed Poland’s Act on the Restriction of Trade on Sundays and Public Holidays (in force since 2018) limits retail trading to a small number of designated [trading Sundays](https://nakordoni.eu/en/info/trading-sundays/2026/poland) each year. On all other Sundays, large shops, supermarkets, and shopping malls must remain closed. In August 2026, shops are closed on **2 August, 9 August, 16 August, and 23 August**. Even on non-trading Sundays, some essential services and small businesses stay open. These include: - Petrol-station shops - Pharmacies (apotheki) - Bakeries (piekarnie) - Post offices - Florists - Shops at railway stations and airports - Small owner-operated stores where the owner serves customers personally (e.g., many Żabka convenience stores) Retailers who violate the ban face fines ranging from PLN 1,000 to PLN 100,000. ## All trading Sundays in 2026 | Date | Day | Reason | | --- | --- | --- | | 25 January 2026 | Sunday | Last Sunday of January | | 29 March 2026 | Sunday | Sunday before Easter | | 26 April 2026 | Sunday | Last Sunday of April | | 28 June 2026 | Sunday | Last Sunday of June | | **30 August 2026** | **Sunday** | **Last Sunday of August** | | 6 December 2026 | Sunday | First pre-Christmas trading Sunday | | 13 December 2026 | Sunday | Second pre-Christmas trading Sunday | | 20 December 2026 | Sunday | Last Sunday before Christmas | ## Tips for travellers & cross-border shoppers If you are planning a trip to Poland for shopping or transit, keep these practical tips in mind: 1. **Plan grocery stops carefully.** On non-trading Sundays, large supermarkets are closed. Stock up on Saturday or on the [trading Sunday](https://nakordoni.eu/en/info/trading-sundays/2026/poland) (30 August 2026). For last-minute needs, use petrol-station shops or small owner-operated stores. 2. **Check the date before crossing the border.** Ukrainian and other cross-border shoppers should verify whether their trip falls on a trading Sunday. If not, expect limited shopping options. 3. **Calculate trip costs in advance.** Use the [Trip Cost Calculator](https://nakordoni.eu/en/tools/trip-cost-calculator) to estimate fuel, toll, and other expenses. This helps avoid unexpected costs during your journey. 4. **Exchange currency before shopping.** If paying in PLN, check live rates using the [Currency Calculator](https://nakordoni.eu/en/currency_calc) to ensure you get the best value for UAH, EUR, or other currencies. ## Useful Tools - [Trading Sundays Calendar — Poland 2026](https://nakordoni.eu/en/info/trading-sundays/2026/poland) - [Supermarket leaflets & promotions](https://nakordoni.eu/en/shopping) - [European Holidays Calendar](https://nakordoni.eu/en/holidays) - [Poland border crossings & info](https://nakordoni.eu/en/country/poland) - [Trip Cost Calculator](https://nakordoni.eu/en/tools/trip-cost-calculator) — estimate fuel, toll and total trip expenses - [Currency Calculator](https://nakordoni.eu/en/currency_calc) — UAH, PLN, EUR and more live rates Source: [nakordoni.eu — Trading Sundays Calendar](https://nakordoni.eu/en/info/trading-sundays/2026/poland) | Updated: 26.08.2026 [(image: KORDON.online)](https://nakordoni.eu/en/apps/kordon) KORDON.online — Border queues at the EU border, in real time Live truck & car queue waiting times at Ukraine–EU and neighbouring border crossings, checkpoint details, news and queue-change bell alerts.
