# Romania Truck Ban for St Mary's Day, 15 August 2026

Romania has flagged additional driving restrictions for heavy goods vehicles around the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Sfanta Maria Mare) on **15 August 2026**. The date is a national public holiday and falls on a Saturday this year, so the holiday rules stack on top of Romania's regular summer weekend regime.

##### Who is affected:

The ban targets vehicles and vehicle combinations with a maximum authorised mass above **7.5 tonnes** on selected national roads (DN) and on approaches to Black Sea and mountain resorts. Motorways generally stay open, but rerouting onto them adds distance, tolls and fuel.

###### 🇷🇴 Romania:

- **Saturday 15 August 2026:** public holiday, reinforced restrictions for HGVs over 7.5 t
- Seasonal summer limits normally run from mid-June to mid-September on resort corridors
- Usual exemptions: perishable foodstuffs, live animals, fuel deliveries, postal services, emergency and breakdown assistance, harvest transport

Restrictions inside Romania shift the load onto the crossings with Ukraine. If your route runs through **Porubne**, **Krasnoilsk**, **Diakove** or **Solotvyno**, budget for a quiet period before the holiday and a surge once the ban lifts on Sunday evening.
