# Kalotina and Kapitan Andreevo: heavy traffic this morning

On the morning of August 2, 2026, the Bulgarian Border Police recorded intense passenger car traffic at two key border crossings simultaneously: **Kalotina** on the border with Serbia and **Kapitan Andreevo** on the border with Turkey. Congestion is being observed both entering and exiting, so drivers should allow extra time.

##### Where things are toughest right now:

Both crossings serve as major transit routes through the Balkans — Kalotina lies on the route to Belgrade, while Kapitan Andreevo is the main gateway to Turkey. At the height of the summer season, it is precisely here that the longest queues form, especially during morning hours and on weekends.

###### 🇧🇬 Bulgaria — situation by direction:

- **Border with Serbia:** intense passenger car traffic at the Kalotina crossing
- **Border with Turkey:** intense traffic at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing
- **Border with Romania:** traffic normal at all crossings
- **Border with North Macedonia:** no complications

###### 🇬🇷 Direction of Greece:

Traffic at the Greek border is calm at all crossings. At the same time, weight restrictions are in effect and should be taken into account in advance:

- **Rudozem, Zlatograd, Makaza, Ivaylovgrad:** vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes only
- **Ilinden, Kulata, Kapitan Petko Voyvoda:** no restrictions — cars, buses, and trucks

##### What travelers should keep in mind:

If your route passes through Kalotina or Kapitan Andreevo, consider departing outside peak hours or choosing an alternative crossing. For heavy vehicles, the choice is effectively narrowed to three crossings on the Greek direction, so it's best to plan your route before you set off.
