# New checkpoint «Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei» on the border with Romania

24.07.2026 11:38

In Zakarpattia, preparations are being finalized for the opening of a new international automobile checkpoint **«Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei»** on the Ukrainian-Romanian border. It is planned to launch it this year — initially on temporary modular infrastructure, which will allow the processing of passenger cars to begin without waiting for the completion of the permanent complex.

##### What has already been done:

According to the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development, key preparatory works have been completed at the site:

- access roads, traffic lanes, and control zones have been arranged;
- the bank of the Tysa River has been reinforced;
- electricity, water supply, and telecommunications have been connected;
- the necessary infrastructure for the operation of border and customs services has been created.

##### How the new checkpoint will operate:

After its opening, the checkpoint [«Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmatiei»](https://nakordoni.eu/en/id/id_809) will operate 24/7 for passenger cars weighing up to 3.5 tons. The throughput capacity is up to 600 cars per day. The new crossing is located next to the existing [Solotvyno](https://nakordoni.eu/en/id/id_38) checkpoint, where during peak periods there is often **a queue at the border**, so its launch should relieve neighboring routes.

###### 🇷🇴 Why this is needed:

«The final stage of preparation for the opening is underway. Its opening will reduce the load on existing checkpoints and contribute to the development of transport links with European Union countries. This is an investment in the stability of the state and the development of border territories», — said Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach. According to him, the launch is planned for this year.

##### How many new checkpoints has Ukraine opened?

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has opened four new checkpoints on the border with EU countries: «Diakivtsi – Rakovec», «Krasnoilsk – Vicovu de Sus», «Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice» and [«Velyka Palad – Nagyhodos»](https://nakordoni.eu/en/id/id_380). The development of border infrastructure on the [border with Romania](https://nakordoni.eu/en/country/romania) and with other neighbors remains one of the key areas for strengthening logistics, mobility, and Ukraine's integration into the European transport space.
