# Autobahn A2 in Germany: completion of the initial closure of the Hamm - Kamener-Kreuz section

On the autobahn **A2** - one of the main transit arteries of Germany in the direction of Dortmund - Hanover - Berlin - the initial closure of traffic has been completed. The section between the **Kamener Kreuz (Kamener Kreuz)** interchange and the city of **Hamm (Hamm)** was closed for a complete reconstruction of the road surface. The work concerns drivers who are heading to Ukraine or from Ukraine in transit through northern Germany, so we are sharing the results and what to expect next.

##### What happened:

- **When:** from Friday evening, July 3 (21:00) to early Monday morning, July 6 (05:00) - about 56 hours of continuous work.
- **Direction:** only the lane towards Hanover was closed; traffic towards Dortmund remained open.
- **Reason:** updating of special noise-reducing asphalt (porous coating, OPA). According to the road operator Autobahn GmbH, such a layer can only be laid "in one continuous cycle", which is why a complete closure was needed, rather than a gradual narrowing.

##### How the detour was organized:

Transit traffic was directed around the autobahn via **A31** and **A30** from the Bottrop interchange, as well as via **A1**, **A44**, and **A33**. Local traffic went along A1 to the Kamener exit and then along the U67 bypass parallel to A2 through Bönen. The A2 traditionally ranks among the busiest autobahns in Germany, so dense traffic jams were predicted on alternative routes - this is worth considering for [truck drivers](https://nakordoni.eu/en/for_truck_drivers), for whom restrictions on this section are particularly sensitive.

Similar road surface repairs are expected on the oncoming lane - towards Dortmund.
