# Opening of pedestrian crossing «Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemecke»

A new crossing format has started operating on the Ukrainian-Slovak border – a pedestrian crossing at the «Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemecke» checkpoint, which is now available to citizens around the clock.

##### What has changed at the border

- Separate infrastructure has been opened for pedestrians, allowing them to cross the border without using vehicles and without creating additional load on traffic lanes.
- The pedestrian crossing started operating in early January 2026 and functions 24/7.

##### New pedestrian infrastructure

- Two separate pedestrian lanes have been established: one for exiting Ukraine, another for entering, with physical separation from vehicular traffic.
- Modern traffic management and safety equipment has been installed, as well as a separate module for pedestrians to pass customs and border control.

##### Impact on travel

- The new format allows comfortable border crossing on foot, then using public transport in Slovakia or Ukraine.
- In the first days of test operation, more than 1,500 people have already passed through the pedestrian crossing, confirming demand for this travel method.

- The launch of the pedestrian crossing is expected to increase mobility for residents of border areas and promote local tourism.
- The «Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemecke» checkpoint remains one of the key transport hubs on the Ukrainian-Slovak border and strengthens cross-border cooperation between the two countries.
